Claim 1: Detox Drinks Flush Meth Metabolites

The diuretic ingredients in most detox drinks — herbal compounds like dandelion root, uva ursi, and green tea extract — do increase urine output. More urine means more excretion, which in theory could speed meth elimination.

In practice, the effect is negligible. The rate-limiting step in meth elimination is hepatic metabolism — how quickly the liver breaks down the drug and its metabolites into excretable compounds. Increasing urine volume does not meaningfully accelerate this process. You produce more urine, but the concentration of metabolites in that urine does not fall proportionally because the underlying metabolic rate is unchanged.

Hair detox shampoos marketed to defeat follicle testing have no credible evidence of effectiveness.

Saliva Testing

Oral fluid tests detect methamphetamine and amphetamine in saliva, typically within a window of 1–4 days from last use. No oral supplement affects salivary metabolite levels.

What Actually Determines Meth Detection in Urine

The variables that genuinely influence whether a meth test returns positive are:

Baking soda. The claim is that baking soda alkalinizes urine, accelerating meth excretion. While urine pH genuinely affects meth elimination rate, the doses of baking soda required to meaningfully shift urine pH to detectable levels carry significant health risks including severe metabolic alkalosis and gastrointestinal complications. The effect on elimination rate is also modest relative to the detection window.

Vinegar. The opposite claim — that acidifying urine somehow defeats testing — has no clinical basis. Acidic urine actually slows meth excretion.

Niacin. High-dose niacin is claimed to flush meth from the system. There is no clinical evidence supporting this. High-dose niacin carries genuine health risks including hepatotoxicity.
