What Is Substance Use Disorder?

  • Increasing doses or using substances longer than intended
  • An inability to stop or reduce use
  • Activity around substances (obtaining, using, recovery, etc.) consumes your time
  • Cravings and a desire to continue using
  • Increased unreliability at home, work, school, or any obligation
  • External consequences exist (work, relational, etc.), but substance use is continued
  • Skipping former hobbies and activities
  • Risky substance use (lack of hygienic use, unsafe environment, etc.)
  • Persistent substance use, regardless of known potential health risks
  • Building a tolerance to the substance (requiring more)
  • Experiencing withdrawal when substance use is stopped or reduced

What Substances Can You Treat?

A substance use disorder can be present with a myriad of substances, both prescription and illegal. In many cases, what often begins as an accepted prescription treatment can escalate into something more severe with the presence of an SUD.

There is so much hope to be found in treatment. It is possible to identify and overcome your substance-related concerns. NUMA expert staff and treatment programs specialize in the following substances:

  • Opioid Use Disorder (Oxycontin, Painkillers, etc.)
  • Heroin Dependence
  • Benzodiazepine Dependence (Benzos, Xanax, Valium, etc.)
  • Stimulant Dependence (Cocaine, Adderall, Meth, etc)
  • Cannabis Dependence (Marijuana, Molly, Weed, THC, etc.)

Long-Term Health Risks of Substance Abuse

  • Asthma
  • Anxiety
  • Paranoia
  • Aggression
  • Increased odds of HIV
  • Bowel decay
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Brain damage
  • Coma
  • Insomnia
  • Confusion
  • And more

These risks are merely a snapshot of what could be - but this doesn’t have to be your future reality. Professional, holistic treatment is the solution to addressing and healing an SUD and reducing the risk of other serious health concerns.
